Will You Pray Wednesday | TFI Prayer Letter

Dear Partners in Prayer, 2 Corinthians 1:20 tells us For all the promises of God find their Yes in Him. That is why we utter the Amen through Him, to the glory of God. When it comes to comparing the promises of man with the promises of God, the fact is that man’s promises are often fleeting and unfulfilled, even when given with good intentions. Broken people break promises. What we hope is a “yes” becomes a “no” resulting in discouragement and loss of hope and trust. This is especially true for those in the world of foster care. However, […]

Forgotten Friday | Why Foster Care Isn’t Adoption

Before I was a foster mom…I find myself starting lots of sentences off like that these days. There’s so much I am learning and seeing and realizing I was wrong about. Before I was a foster mom, foster care and adoption rolled out of my mouth in the same breath. They were like cute little siblings that mirrored this beautiful picture of God’s great redemption and necessary rescuing. I thought they were so similar in their efforts to reveal who Jesus is to a broken world. And they do that. for sure. But that’s where their similarities end for me. […]

Make a Difference Monday | A Letter to Our Borrowed Baby

Dear Baby Girl, Welcome to our family! Sometimes I don’t know what I’m missing until I find it, and that has certainly been true with you. We didn’t know this family was missing a tiny bundle of pink cries and coos until you arrived. Now it feels like you always belonged. When we got the phone call that you needed a place to be, I said yes. I said yes before I even checked with Brian because I knew he’d say yes, too. In very general terms we had been talking about your arrival for some time and when we […]

Forgotten Friday | The Cause of Foster Children

I worked a booth for recruiting foster families at a local convention this weekend. To be honest, while the time I was there, I can count on one hand the number of folks who actually engaged me in conversation about the need for foster homes in our communities. I get it. Foster parenting is certainly not for the faint of heart, but I found myself considering why it is important for Christians to step into the world of abuse and neglect. The thought, “If Christians do not take up the cause of foster children and pray for them, then who […]

Make a Difference Monday: Why Did You Choose Foster Care? Because He Said Yes

Foster care… Why did we say yes to foster care? Here’s the simple answer to a not so simple question: We said “Yes!” because He said “YES!” I mentioned in the previous post the condition of my heart being revealed hard and fast… it’s ugly. As filthy and murky as can be. So, question… have you ever found yourself thinking you’ve learned it all, not much growing left to do, conquered your toughest sins…? I’ve heard others say it and I’ve felt it myself, even when I didn’t realize it… the belief that we’ve overcome our greatest sins and the […]
